"Action is the foundational key to all success"

About me -

From start to finish, there are many ways to sew a garment– much like math, there is a right and a wrong way to solve that problem. Taking a rendering from paper to a wearable outfit is a process of trial and error that only persistence can solve. When receiving a garment to be made, the only version of that character’s visual portrayal exists in the designer’s mind and their two dimensional explanation of their vision. Then, taking that idea from its theoretical state to a physical, wearable outfit is not only important to the designer, but it is necessary to do justice to the actor. Noticing each small detail, from the number of buttons at the cuff to just how tight a shirt fits around the neck is essential, as each part of the costume was a conscious choice with reason behind it.

I was introduced to the world of costuming in my first year of undergrad by chance, or maybe by fate. The decision to declare a degree in costume technology was not a hard one. I was hooked by the fact that building a garment is both a creative art form and an exact, particular science. Visual problem solving and watching the process unfold is not only rewarding but enjoyable. I am excited to continue learning more about the craft for the rest of my life.
